Research Project

Precise construction of asymmetric coordination sphere by the stepwise complexation of mononuclear complexes with multi-metallic clusters and their catalytic application

Abstract

Development of efficient transition metal catalysts is in high demand in synthetic organic chemistry to minimize the reaction waste and to shorten the reaction steps.  Creation of precisely designed coordination sphere around the metal center is particularly important to control the catalytic performance, and therefore, “Development of New Methodology for Designing asymmetrical coordination sphere” is an important research subject that leads to a drastic improvement in the catalytic performance.  Functionalization of metal oxide clusters composed of metals with bridging oxygen atoms is a target in this research topic.  By introducing a new mononuclear complexes on the bridging oxygen atom, the primary coordination sphere is formed by the ligands on the mononuclear complex, and the secondary coordination sphere is constructed by the ligands on the metal oxide clusters.  The catalytic performance of the mixed-metal clusters is further investigated to clarify the structure and activity/selectivity relationship.
