Research Project

Supramolecular Complexes Formed by Coordination-Driven Desymmetrization Self-Assembly and Exploration of Their Functions

Abstract

Coordination-driven self-assembly of metal ions and organic ligands is a powerful method to construct finite nanometer-scale structures in solution.  However, structures of such complexes and the space they provide tend to be isotropic, because the self-assembly utilizes reversibility of the coordination bonds and it leads to thermodynamic products.  This project aims at simultaneous realization of the construction of giant supramolecules via one-pot coordination-driven self-assembly and the formation of anisotropic structures whose components are desymmetrized.  Furthermore, the functions of the elaborate giant self-assembled complexes are pursued, whose inner spaces and metal arrays are well-defined and asymmetric.
