Abstract

The objective in our study includes “transcribing asymmetric structure”, “exploiting asymmetric functions”, and “creating asymmetric materials”, through our original template processes, called biotemplate and chiral silica template methods.  The present study aims at (1) fabrication of metal microcoils by the biotemplate process and their dispersion sheets, which shows a giant circular dichroism in teraheltz frequency region, (2) fabrication of various kinds of optically active inorganic materials by the “chiral silica” template process, based on supramolecular complexation between polyethylene imine and chiral organic acids.  The development of the above fabrication processes places the most importance on mass production, material versatility, and structural controllability.  We explore “asymmetric functions” in a wide sense on exotic near-field applications, mechanical responses, and translational/rotational motions, in addition to optical or electromagnetical responses and asymmetric catalytic reactions.
