Construction of Asymmetric Flexible Coordination Systems by Hydrogen-bond-directed Self-assembly


In this research project, we will construct hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) possessing asymmetric flexible coordination sites within the frameworks and create asymmetric or anisotropic functional systems responsive to external chemical stimuli dynamically and reversibly. Such systems can be achieved by hydrogen-bonding-driven self-assembly of a series of mono-, bi-, and tri-benzocrown ether derivatives with carboxy groups. The integrated crown ether moieties in HOFs can provide flexible coordination environment, and therefore, response cooperatively to alkali or transition metal cations and organic cations such as chiral ammonium. Although crown ethers are well-known ionophers to be utilized for ion phase transfer reagents, senses of ions and chiral ammonium, those incorporated in well-defined crystalline porous frameworks are rare, allowing to develop a new field of coordination chemistry.
